今年，是英國《衛報》（The Guardian）衛報大學獎（Guardian University Awards）第六年承認那些激發學生和改變社區的英國大學。

2018衛報大學獎（The Guardian University Awards 2018）旨在慶祝英國大學的多元化機構，以及他們為滿足包容性多樣化數字世界的需求而進行更新的創新方式。或許恰當地說，社會和社區影響（Social and community impact）是今年提交數量最多的類別。

來自斯旺西大學（Swansea University）的獲獎作品通過由員工和學生組成的開放式診所幫助填補了當地NHS服務的空白。提交數字緊隨其后的是學生體驗（student experience）類別，該類別被授予薩里大學（University of Surrey）內部的學生出租機構，旨在解決當地的高租金問題。

今年還推出了幾個新類別，以反映不斷變化的高等教育環境。

為了承認擴大大學參與的重要性日益增加，學生多樣性被分為兩大類：擴大獲取和拓展（Widening access and outreach）以及保留，支持和學生成果（retention, support and student outcomes）。
